The European Ski Mountaineering Championships 2018 get underway today on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy. The competitions take place on the North Face of the volcano from 22 - 24 February.

The women’s expedition comprised of Anna Torretta, Cecilia Buil and Ixchel Foord has won the main grant of the First Ascent Expedition Award promoted by the Grit & Rock Award foundation aimed at promoting female first ascents.
