On 6 June 6 2018 American climbers Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell became the first to climb The Nose on El Capitan in Yosemite in under two hours. 1 hour, 58 minutes and 7 seconds to be exact, an impressive and terrifying time, which finally broke the symbolic 2-hour barrier.

The record-breaking climb came a few days after having bested the previous record set in 2017 by Brad Gobright and Jim Reynolds, and this new time will - in all likelihood - remain unbeaten for a long time.

The history of The Nose's speed ascent and the attempts carried out by Caldwell and Honnold to break the record is recounted in the thrilling The Nose Speed Record by Reel Rock 14, which has also released this interesting time-lapse of the audacious vertical sprint from start to finish. Just to give you an idea of how quick they really were: most climbers require a whole day to get to Sickle Ledge, Caldwell needed little more than 11 minutes...
