We mentioned they were planning it a few days ago, now though words have given way to action: yesterday America's Libby Sauter and New Zealand's Mayan Smith-Gobat set a new female speed record on The Nose, El Capitan.

According to American climbing magazine Rock & Ice, the two women set off at 7:18 yesterday morning, with Sauter leading the first block to the Boot Flake and Smith-Gobat leading on to the summit. The two stopped the chronometer after a mere 5 hours and 2 minutes, more than half an hour faster that the previous record the two had set in September 2013.
