Laura Rogora claims third 8c+ onsight, Così fan tutte at Rodellar in Spain

Laura Rogora has never appeared stronger and there seems to be no end to her dominance in sight. In particular when it comes to the purest of sport climbing styles, onsighting. After becoming the first woman in the world to onsight 8c+ with her faultless ascent of Ultimate Sacrifice at Gorges du Loup in July 2025, she doubled this up in November with her first-go ascent of La Ligne Claire at Saint-Léger-du-Ventoux. The 25-year-old Italian has now further consolidated her position at the absolute apex of this sport with her ascent of her thrid 8c+ onsight, Così fan tutte at Rodellar in Spain. Only two other climbers, worldwide, have onsighted harder than Rogora, namely Alexander Megos and Adam Ondra, while the current onsight limit stands half a grade harder, at 9a.

Rogora's extraordinary ascent came about during an even more extraordinary climbing trip to Spain which netted her a ticklist that has few equals. On day one she sent No pain no gain (9a+) third go followed by Botanics (8b+) onsight, and on day two she gave Patanics (9a+) three goes, before sending it on her second attempt on day three as well as Cascavel (8c) third go that afternoon. A rest day was in order, after which she blasted up the 50m stamina fest Così fan tutte. Not content, and evidently still with plenty in the tank, she dispatched with Così se Arete (9a) second go. The trip ended sending the 8c La Reina de la Piscineta. Onsight, of course.

Così fan tutte was first onsighted back in 2013 by Magnus Midtbø who, in doing so, became only the 5th person in the world to onsight this grade. Since then a hold on the second crux has broken, making the route slightly harder still.

The first to onsight 8c+ was Patxi Usobiaga with his 2007 os - and first ascent - of Bizi euskara at Etxauri, Spain. At the start of 2011 Adam Ondra repeated this feat with three 8c+ onsights in just a handful of days, while a few months later Ramon Julian Puigblanque immediately dispatched with The crew at Rifle (USA). In early 2013 Alex Megos skipped the 8c+ grade entirely and checked in with the world's first 9a onsight, Estado Critico at Siurana in Spain, after Adam Ondra had previously onsighted three 9a's which he himself had downgraded to 8c+. If Rogora continues her run of form, perhaps we're on the verge of the first female 9a onsight.
