Laura Rogora fabulous at Passo Fedaia, Dolomites
To escape the heatwave that has been smothering northern Italy in recent days, Laura Rogora headed for higher ground – more precisely to the crag Capanna Bill hut at Passo Fedaia, in the Marmolada area of the Italian Dolomites. Over a single weekend, the 25‑year‑old racked up a haul that few can match: an 8b/+ flash, an 8c on her second attempt, a 9a also on her second attempt, and – as if that weren't enough – an 8c onsight and a 9a+. Mind‑blowing.
Her ticklist unfolded as follows: on Saturday, she sent Absinthium (9a) and flashed Wrangler (8b/+), then made two attempts on the 9a+ Affinità Elettive. On Sunday, after warming up on a 7a, she redpointed Affinità Elettive straight off. Then came Attraverso lo Specchio (8c) second go and, to round off the day in style, she onsighted the 8c Tinnitus.
A quick overview of the routes: Absinthium is an extension of Mario Prinoth's The Search, while Wrangler was bolted by his brother Luca Prinoth. Affinità Elettive links these two routes together. Attraverso lo Specchio is another variant of Wrangler, bolted by local climber Andrea Milani, and Tinnitus is an extension of Mario Prinoth's Dominator, also bolted by Milani, who freed all these extensions and link‑ups.
Milani accompanied Rogora on her weekend and told planetmountain: "I'm really happy that Laura got in touch, that a climber like her is interested in these routes, and that they've been repeated by her. I'm also very glad that the difficulties seem to be confirmed."
