On 7 September 2025 the Italian alpinists Matteo Della Bordella and Marco Majori completed the coveted first winter ascent of the casarotto route on Fitz Roy in Patagonia. The legendary climb up the Goretta Pillar was established solo by Renato casarotto in 1979.

An strong Italian expedition comprised of Matteo Della Bordella, Tommaso Lamantia and Marco Majori is currently on its way to Patagonia where it aims to make the first winter ascent of the casarotto route on the Goretta Pillar on Fitz Roy.
