On 28 October the French mountaineers Stephane Benoist and Patrice Glairon-Rappaz reached the summit of Nuptse (7861m, Khumbu, Himalaya) via a new route up the grandiose South Face.

On 17/07/2008 the Russians Valery Babanov and Victor Afanasiev reached the summit of Broad Peak (8047m) after having climbed a new route up the northwest face of the 12th highest mountain in the world.

On the 7th, of March Valery Babanov, Hervé Barmasse, Ettore Taufer, Giovanni Amort, Elio Sganga and Marco Farina (Alpine Training Centre), Christophe Profit and Pemba Doma Sherpa all received their Saint Vincent Awards for Mountain Professionals in front of a packed evening audience in the Casino of the Valley.

From the end of July to 4 Spetember Mauro 'Bubu' Bole and Mario Cortese made the first ascent of Le nez (1300m, max 7c), on the north face of P.ta Croz, grandes jorasses, Mont Blanc.

From 17 to 21 March Patrick Gabarrou, Philippe Batoux and Christophe Dumarest made the first ascent of a new route on the North Face of Punta Margherita (4066m) at the grandes jorasses, Mont Blanc.

Robert Jasper and Markus Stofer have repeated the great mixed climb 'No Siesta' up the North Face of the grandes jorasses in the Mont Blanc massif from 17 - 19 March 2003 .

In April Massimo Farina and Patrick Gabarrou opened "Ice for good" and "Fantastica", two new mixed routes on the Aiguille du Tacul, grandes jorasses. Together with Ezio Marlier Gabarrou then climbed "Poisson d'Avril" on the Seracco del Col des Hirondelles.

At the end of August 2001 the Germans Robert Jasper and Rainer Treppte climbed a major new route on the North Face of the Matterhorn (4474m).
