The organisers of the Piolet d’Or mountaineering award have published the 'big list' of most significant and innovative climbs carried out in 2024. The honoured ascents will receive the Piolets d'Or 2025 award from 9 - 12 December 2025 during the celebration at San Martino di Castrozza (Italy).

Norwegian climber Leo Ketil Bøe has climbed his hardest route to date, 'Change' at Flatanger in Norway. Put up by Adam Ondra in 2012, it is considered the world's first 9b+.

A German expedition comprised of Julius Brunner, Sebastian Gantz, Hanna Kallweit and Rosa Windelband have made a team free ascent of the famous 'Eternal Flame' on Nameless Tower (Trango Tower, Pakistan).

Italian climbers Pietro Vidi and Alessandro Larcher have successfully made a free ascent of 'Joy Division' (800m, 8b), on Mount Qualido in Val Di Mello, Italy. The pair redpointed the first pitch, graded 8b, after having free climbed the rest of the route.

On 11 August Janina Reichstein and Luisa Deubzer repeated 'Headless Children' (8b, 250m) on Schijenfluh, Rätikon. The pair made an ecopoint ascent, travelling to the mountain to work the route by train, bus and hitchhiking. Deubzer reports.

On 26 August Lara Neumeier repeated 'End of Silence', the 11-pitch 8b+ established by Thomas Huber in 1994 on the Feuerhörndl in the Berchtesgaden Alps, Germany

British climber Emma Twyford has repeated 'Yma O Hyd', the E10 7a in the Ogwen Valley, North Wales.

On 26/08/2025 German climber Yannick Flohé has made the first repeat of 'Ratstaman Vibrations' at Céüse. Originally bolted by Chris Sharma and subsequently freed by Alex Megos in 2022, Flohé believes the climb could be upgraded to 9b/+.

Climbing with Edu Marin, Marcello Bombardi has repeated 'Ego Land' on the south face of Marmolada (Dolomites, Italy). Swiss climber Katherine Choong has made the first female ascent of 'Piz Dal Nas' on the North Face of Titlis in Switzerland. The 500m 8b was established ground-up by Matthias Trottmann and then freed by the Swissman in 2010.

On the south face of Col Bechei in the Dolomites Daniele Bolognani and Davide Dallago have made the first ascent of 'Kindergarten'. The new multipitch is described as being a '5-star line on bullet-proof limestone.'

Austrian climber Eva Hammelmüller has redpointed 'Crise de Panique' (8c+) at Bas Valais in Switzerland.

Berni Rivadossi and Giorgio Consiglio, helped by Ale Zaina and Max Faletti, have established 'Mona Lisa', a new multipitch sports climb on Monte Gallo on the outskirts of Palermo in Sicily.
