Sellavie multipitch added to Piz Ciavazes (Dolomites) by Hubert Eisendle, Simon Kehrer
Following the opening of Bio Rock on Piccolo Lagazuoi, here's another fine new route put up by Simon Kehrer – this time on Piz Ciavazes, together with his regular climbing partner Hubert Eisendle. Over three days between autumn 2025 and early June, the two South Tyrolean mountain guides established Sellavie, an alpine sports climb – with bolts occasionally spaced far apart – that, with difficulties up to 7a, climbs the mountain's sunny south face between Shit Hubert and the classic Schubert.
Speaking to planetmountain after the redpoint, Kehrer explained: "Sellavie is a beautiful route, except for one pitch – the easiest one – where the rock is still a little friable; on all the rest, the rock is really good. Last year I abseiled down Via Schubert several times and was often in the area climbing, since the Falzarego Pass was closed, and that's how I noticed this line. At first I was very sceptical, but after a long research I realised there was still room for something new. The route takes an independent line and you can descend on foot via the central ledge, or abseil down the route – but be careful because the last pitch ends on a chossy ledge, and there you have to be careful not to knock stones down. Note that the bolts are a bit more runout out than usual, but that's what makes it better!"
