Eva Hammelmüller continues to consolidate the 9a grade, at such a fast pace that 9a+ must, surely, be on the agenda sooner rather than later. The latest to fall to her superpowers is WRC at Castillon in France, which she sent on her fourth day of attempts. The route is an extension to the 40-move 8c+ Alien Carnage, which the 25-year-old sent two days prior and which was freed by Germany's Christian Bindhammer way back in 1999.

Refreshingly, the 25-year-old is also interested in paying her dues to the past and in her quest to hunting out historical lines she recently repeating three former testpieces: Dschungelfieber at the Schleierwasserfall put up by Reinhold Scherer in 1992, Hyaena at Finale Ligure established by Andrea Gallo in 1986 and La Rose et le Vampire at Buoux freed by Antoine Le Menestrel in 1985. Three climbs that continue to inspire, regardless of the grade.
