The 5th Karl Unterkircher Award was awarded on 14 July 2018 in Selva di Val Gardena, Italy to Simone Moro who, together with Ali Sadpara and Alex Txikon, carried out the first winter ascent of Nanga Parbat in February 2016. The other climbers that had been nominated Ines Papert and Luka Lindič for their new route on Kyzyl Asker in Kyrgyzstan (China), and Simon Gietl and Marcel Schenk for the new mixed climb up Pizzo Badile in Switzerland.
On July 14, 2018 Selva di Val Gardena will host the fifth edition of the Karl Unterkircher Award in memory of the South Tyrolean alpinist who died ten years ago on Nanga Parbat. On Wednesday, July 23 at Selva di Val Gardena, Dolomites, the 3rd Karl Unterkircher Award 2014 was given to Simon Anthamatten, Matthias Auer and Hansjörg Auer for their first ascent of the East Face of Kunyang Chhish, Karakorum / Pakistan.
The Piolets d'Or 2014 was assigned this evening in Courmayeur to two ascents: the NW Face of K6 climbed by Raphael Slawinski and Ian Welsted and the South Face of Annapurna climbed solo by Ueli Steck. The South Face of Annapurna ascent carried out by da Stephane Benoist and Yannick Graziani received a Special Mention from the Jury, while the "Walter Bonatti" Lifetime Achievement award was given to John Roskelley.

From 26 - 29 March the international meeting with the alpinism "Oscar" returns to Chamonix and Courmayeur on the two sides of Mont Blanc: a great jury will select the best climb in 2013, while American alpinist John Roskelley will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. On 18 July 2013 Simon Anthamatten from Switzerland and the Austrian brothers Hansjörg Auer and Matthias Auer successfully climbed the hitherto virgin peak Kunyang Chhish East in Pakistan's Karakorum.
In mid-July a five-man Austrian expedition comprised of Thomas Scheiber, Hansjörg Auer, Matthias Auer, Karl Dung and Ambros Sailer established two new routes in the Trango Valley, Karakorum, Pakistan, and repeated Woman and Chalk, first ascended in 2001 by Bubu Bole, Mario Cortese and Fabio Dandri.
