On 28/10/2012 New Zealand's Mayan Smith-Gobat succeeded in the first female ascent of Punks in the Gym (32/8b+) at Arapiles, Australia.

This summer a successful Swiss expedition comprised of Jacksch, Ledergerber, Schüpbach and Reist established four long new routes in Renland, Greenland.

On Friday 31/08/2012 during the VII edition of the Arco Rock Legends Sasha DiGiulian won the Salewa Rock Award, while Anna Stöhr received the La Sportiva Competition Award. Stefan Glowacz was awarded with the Climbing Ambassador by Aquafil prize.

On 1 -2/08/2012 Italian climbers Giorgio Travaglia and Stefano Valsecchi made the first ascent of Pilastro Parmenide (500m VI + A3+ + 100m of grade II) up the South Face of Cima dell'Auta orientale (Marmolada, Dolomites). The route was started by Travaglia and others in 2010.

In June and July 2012 a strong team of international climbers comprised of Hansjörg Auer, Riky Felderer, Ben Lepesant, Matteo Mocellin, William Peterson, Eneko Pou and Iker Pou forged 4 new free climbs on Baffin Island’s East Coast, including The Door 8b.

A small team comprised of Steve Bradshaw, Dave Glass, Clinton Marteningo and Andrew Porter have established a series of new rock climbs in Greenland.

Mayan Smith-Gobat, together with David Falt, has made the third free ascent of Donnafugata on Torre Trieste, Civetta, Dolomites. 750m, 8a in a ground-up, in a 32 hour single push with no bivy gear. Falt provides the report.

Four years after their first attempt, Martin and Florian Riegler now return to the Karakorum, Pakistan, together with Austrians Monika Mehlmauer and Christoph Mohl to attempt the virgin Darwo Chhok Peak (5850m).

On Friday 6 July at Selva di Val Gardena (Italy) Marina Kopteva and Anna Yasinskaya from the Ukraine and Galina Chibitok from Russia received the Karl Unterkircher Award 2012 for their new route established in 38 days up the NW Face of Great Trango Tower (Pakistan).
