The Italian mountaineering community is in mourning: Lorenzo Scandroglio, a well-known mountain journalist, writer and translator, mountain hut warden, mountaineer and member of the Italian mountain rescue team, passed away at the age of 52.

German climbers Stefan Glowacz and Philipp Hans have made the first ascent of Wallride Vol. 1, a new route up Croda Bianca (2841m) in the Marmarole group, Dolomites as part of their Wallride project.

On 28 May 2021 the two mountain guides Simon Gietl and Andrea Oberbacher made the first ascent of Zero, a new multi-pitch route on Torre del Lago (Fanis, Dolomites).

German alpinist David Göttler has climbed Peña Vieja (2613m) in the Picos de Europa massif in Spain via the route El Espolon de los Franceses. 17 pitches followed by a long and exposed ridge, with his 81-year-old father.

British mountaineers John McCune and Will Sim have climbed what is likely to be a new route to the left of Beyond Good and Evil on the North Face of Aiguille de Pélerins in the Mont Blanc massif. Above and Beyond has been graded ED M6 6b+.

German rock climber Martina Demmel has redpointed her first 9a, Joe-cita at Oliana in Spain.

At the crag Lorünser Wändle in Austria Barbara Zangerl has made the first repeat of the 9a Sprengstoff, freed by Jacopo Larcher in November 2020.

American rock climber Daniel Woods has made the first ascent of Return of the Sleepwalker, a 17-move problem at Red Rocks, USA which he has graded V17/9A making it one of the very hardest boulder problems in the world.

Aymeric Clouet, Mathieu Maynadier and Charles Noirot have established T’enflammes pas, a new mixed climb on Flammes de Pierre in the Mont Blanc massif.
