62-year-old Slovenian mountaineer Franček Knez died on 6 October 2017. Reserved and modest, Knez was considered by many as one of the strongest alpinists of his generation. Published below is a profile written by Slovenian journalist Urban Golob in 2010 when, together with Silvo Karo, Knez was conferred the Order of Merit for his contributions to mountaineering.
Between 20 July and 9 September 2015 the Slovenian alpinists Anastasija Davidova and Matija Jošt - Matic made what are believed to be the first ascents of three previously unclimbed peaks in the India’s Raru valley: Khumchu Ri 6064m, Kun Long Ri 6058m and Ri Pok Te 6210m.
On 17 October Mathieu Détrie and Julien Dusserre climbed a new route up Dazampa Tse (Dzasampatse) in the Nangpai-Gosum, Himalaya, Nepal. The next day their expedition companions Pierre Labbre and Mathieu Maynadier repeated the route.
On the North Face of Travnik in Valle Lavina (Laghi di Fusine, Tarvisio, Italy) the Slovenian alpinist Dejan Koren has made the first ascent of three new mixed climbs, including the ice climb Mali Bogovi, dedicated to the late Urban Golob.

On 22 December 2010 the Slovenian alpinists Francek Knez and Silvo Karo were awarded the Order of Merit by Slovenia's President Dr. Danilo Tuerk. This high state decoration was confirmed on the pair for "their achievements in Slovenian mountain climbing and for their contributions to the reputation of Slovenian mountaineering and greater recognition of Slovenia in the world."
On 28 December 2010 the American climber Cody Roth carried out the first repeat of Malvasia at Dvigrad in Croatia, the route bolted in 1987 and freed in 1988 by Maurizio 'Manolo' Zanolla which no one had managed to repeat. Pavle Kozjek was officially declared dead on 11 September after disappearing on Muztagh Tower on 25 August 2008. A commemoration service will be held on 17 September in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The expert Slovenian mountaineer Pavle Kozjek has been missing on Muztagh Tower, Karakorum, Pakistan since 25 August. His partner Dejan Miskovic has been rescued and is safe in Base Camp.
