Whilst a record number of 1,008 climbers climbed to the summit of Everest in spring 2026, the undisputed stars of the pre-monsoon season in the Himalayas are undoubtedly Bartek Ziemski and Hillary Dawa Sherpa. By Alessandro Filippini.

Polish alpinist Bartosz Ziemski has made ski descents of both Lhotse and Everest in Nepal. He climbed both mountains alpine style, without supplementary oxygen.

On 31/12/2025 Filip Babicz and Olivier Gajewski climbed the historic 'Allain-Leininger' route (TD+, M7, 900m) on the north face of the Petit Dru (3,733m) in the Mont Blanc massif. This is a rare single-day free ascent in winter of this classic, established in 1935 by Pierre Allain and Raymond Leininger.
