Great mourning in the ski mountaineering world and that of the mountains in general: on Sunday 17/06/2012 the 41 year-old ski mountaineering champion Stephane Brosse died as a result of a cornice collapse on Aiguille Argentiere (Mont Blanc).

The start of the XVIII "Mezzalama" has been postponed to 05:30 on Sunday 1 May

The Grande Course has just begun, the first international ski mountaineering cup comparable to a tennis Grand Slam. Action kicked off on 17 March on the slopes of France's Arêches-Beaufort, which hosted the Grenoble winter Olympics, with the classic French ski mountaineering competition pierra menta which dates back to 1985.

The four day ski mountaineering marathon in Arêches-Beaufort (France) was won by the Spanish-Swiss team comprised of Kilian Jornet Burgada and Florent Troillet. The women's event was won by the Italians Francesca Martinelli and Roberta Pedranzini.

The 17th Mezzalama Trophy will take place on 19 April 2009. This classic ski mountaineering marathon takes place once every two years and dates back to 1933. As usual it starts at Breuil-Cervinia and finishes at Gressoney la Trinité via the Monte Rosa glacier and the summit of Monte Castore.

On 29/05 the Swiss-Italian trio comprised of Giacomelli - Pellissier - Troillet won the XVI Mezzalama, the most challenging ski mountaineering race in the world. The women's event was won by the extraordinary Martinelli - Pedranzini - G.Pellissier, who in doing so also set a new course record.

Dennis Brunod and Manfred Reichegger win the XIII Tour du Rutor. Gloriana Pellissier and Laetitia Roux win the women's event.
