Mont Blanc: Gignoux and Brosse establish new record ascent
In just 5 hours, 15 minutes and 47 seconds Pierre Gignoux and Stéphan Brosse climb Mont Blanc from Chamonix
5 hours, 15 minutes and 47 seconds. This is the time the Frenchmen Pierre Gignoux and Stéphan Brosse needed to climb Mont Blanc, starting from and returning to Chamonix. The two left Chamonix at 6.00am with full ski mountaineering gear, and climbing roped together they crossed the Grand Mulets (3051m), the Vallot bivouac and the Bosses Crest, to reach the summit at 10.07. A rapid descent in just 1.08 hours brought them back to their starting point in 5hrs 1547 (compared to a summer ascent time of 5h 10' 14''). Pierre Gignoux and Stéphan Brosse are considered to be some of the most successful skyrunners in the world. Brosse is Ski Mountaineering World Champion and twice European Champion, whilst Gignoux is three times European Champion. Both are members of the French ski mountaineering squad and have won the Pierra Menta. They placed second together with Jean Pellissiera at the last Mezzalama Trophy.
