Nanga Parbat: summit and first winter ascent by Simone Moro, Ali Sadpara and Alex Txikon

On Friday 26 February 2016 Italy's Simone Moro, Spain's Alex Txikon and Pakistan's Ali Sadpara successfully carried out the historic first winter ascent of Nanga Parbat (8126m, Karakorum, Pakistan). Italy's Tamara Lunger stopped her bid on the ridge below the summit. Towards 20:00 circa (Pakistan time) all four alpinists returned to Camp 4 at 7100m.

Cerro Torre and the 1985 first winter ascent

It's currently winter in Patagonia. Exactly 30 years ago, in July 1985, the Italians Paolo Caruso, Maurizio Giarolli, Andrea Sarchi and Ermanno Salvaterra carried out the historic first winter ascent of Cerro Torre via the 'Compressor route' established by Cesare Maestri up the East Ridge. Here is a short film about those days on the mountain that added, like so many others, an important chapter to Patagonia's mountaineering history.

Matteo Della Bordella wins Grignetta d'Oro 2015

On Friday, May 22 at Lecco the Grignetta d'Oro 2015 was awarded to Matteo Della Bordella while Ivo Ferrari and Romano Benet received special mentions. The other alpinists in the running for the Italian mountaineering award were Hervé Barmasse, Simon Gietl, Tamara Lunger, Corrado Pesce, Francesco Salvaterra and Luca Schiera.

Grignetta d'Oro: the 7 Italian finalists

The names have been revealed of the seven mountaineers in the running for the Grignetta d’Oro, the Italian mountaineering award that will be celebrated on Friday 22 May at Lecco. The jury has selected the following alpinists: Hervé Barmasse, Matteo Della Bordella, Simon Gietl, Tamara Lunger, Corrado Pesce, Francesco Salvaterra and Luca Schiera.

Piolet d'Or 2015: the 3 ascent videos

Piolet d'Or 2015: the grande finale at Courmayeur

On Saturday 11 April the awards ceremony of the 23rd Piolets d'Or, the Oscars of alpinism, were held at Courmayeur, Italy. Americans Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold, Russians Aleksander Gukov and Aleksey Lonchinsky and Slovenians Marko Prezelj, Ales Cesen and Luka Lindic were awarded the Piolet d'Or 2015. Britain’s Chris Bonington received the Piolet d'Or Carrière.

On Friday 7 November 2014 at Padova the film premier "Un giorno a Wamba". International Mountain Summit: a meeting and a discussion about alpinism, doping, culture and the environment

At the International Mountain Summit 2014, that will take place in Brixen, Italy, from 16 - 21 October there are two important days organised by the Master in Mountain Medicine and his director Dott. Luigi Festi. The first, on 17 October, is entitled 'A mountain of words, images, emotions, colors' while the second on 18 October is entitled 'Clean and Honest Mountaineering: Reality or Illusion?' and will host an international meeting discussing the use of doping in alpinism and mountain sports.
