Polish ski mountaineer andrzej bargiel has become the first person in the world to climb and then make a complete ski descent of Mount Everest (8,849m) without supplementary oxygen. The 37-year-old skied the mountain's south face and stopped for the night at Camp II.

The organisers of the Piolet d’Or mountaineering award have published the complete list of most significant and innovative climbs carried out in 2021.The prize giving ceremony will be celebrated from 18 to 20 November 2022 at Briançon in France.

A case study of the use of drones in the historic first ski descent of K2, carried out in 2018 by Poland’s andrzej bargiel

On 10 May andrzej bargiel and Jędrek Baranowski climbed Laila Peak (6096m) in the Karakorum, Pakistan. Starting from about 150m below the summit, the two Polish mountaineers then descended on skis.

On 30 April andrzej bargiel made the first ascent Yawash Sar II (6178m) in the Karakorum, Pakistan. Having reached the summit via the west face, the Polish mountaineer then made the mountain’s first ski descent.

The Americans Hilaree Nelson and Jim Morrison have carried out the first integral ski descent of Lhotse (8516m) in the Himalaya, skiing directly off the summit down to Camp 2 at 6400 meters.
