Michaela Kiersch sends Siurana's La Rambla (9a+)

American climber Michaela Kiersch has climbed her first 9a+, La Rambla (9a+) at Siurana, Spain. The 28-year-old is only the third woman to repeat this classic test after Margo Hayes in 2017 and Chaehyun Seo in 2022.

America's Michaela Kiersch is understandably over the moon with her repeat of one of the world's most famous 9a+, La Rambla (9a+) at Siurana, Spain. The 28-year-old climbing coach and Occupational Therapist sent the route earlier today, after having started working the line for the first time ever earlier this month.

Established by Germany's Alexander Huber in 1994 to a pocket at 3/4 height way back in 1994 and subsequently extended to the top of the crag by Ramón Julián Puigblanque in 2003, during the last three decades this immensely beautiful stamina test has transformed into one of the most coveted routes of its grade. The first female ascent was carried out in 2017 by Margo Hayes who, in doing so, became the first woman in the world to climb 9a+, while 19-year-old Chaehyun Seo from South Korea repeated the line in November 2022.

La Rambla is Kiersch's first 9a+. In September 2021 she sent her first 9a, Dreamcatcher at Squamish, while in May 2022 she repeated the 8B+ boulder problem New Base Line at Magic Wood in Switzerland.
