New climb on Cerro El Brujo (Andes) by Raimundo De Andraca, Diego Saez
Between the 1st and 3rd of November 2025, Raimundo De Andraca and Diego Saez climbed Cerro El Brujo in Chile, reaching its south summit via what is believed to be a new route. The mountain is located in the central part of the Chilean Andes, in the granite of the Glaciar Universidad National Reserve, and provided the climbers with a strenuous and psychological demanding ascent. The two mountain guides reached the 4,460m summit at 13:30 on November 3rd and then descended via the west face.
De Andraca assessed the lower part of the face, characterised by excellent rock pitches, with a maximum grade of 5.8. The central and upper sections provided technical mixed pitches and some easy ice flows, which led to the ridge and airy cornices. The overall grade for the 2,300m line is M5 WI3 5.8, and the two climbed alpine style, leaving no gear in-situ.
The main difficulty encountered by De Andraca and Saez was the presence of unconsolidated snow on the granite slabs. They described their experience as "a complete adventure on a splendid mountain in the Central Andes."
