On Saturday 17 May 2014 Italian alpinists Nives Meroi and Romano Benet summited Kangchenjunga (8.586m), the third highest mountain in the world. Their ascent marks a great return to the Himalaya and is also an important and unique journey.

At 9:40am local time on 19 May Russian alpinist Denis urubko reached the summit of Kangchenjunga from the north, while Italy's Marco Camandona summited yesterday from the south as did Spain's Carlos Soria. This is the 75-year-old's 12th 8000er.

The 7th Piolet d’Or Asia 2012 was held in Seoul, Korea on 9/11/2012. The alpine award went to the Korean mountaineers Kim Chang-ho and An Chi-young, as well as Zhou Peng and Lee Shuang. Denis Urbko from Kazakhstan won the achievement award.
