Watch Jim Pope climb Sad Amongst Friends, the Johnny Dawes classic at Stanage
The short film by Char Williams featuring Jim Pope repeating 'Sad Amongst Friends', the trad climb at Stanage in England famously first ascended ground-up over three days by Johnny Dawes.
This is a nice little gem which encapsulates the very best of gritstone climbing: Jim Pope repeating Sad Amongst Friends at the Cowperstone at Stanage in England's Peak District. The route was famously first ascended in 1984 by one of the undisputed masters of grit, Johnny Dawes, in absolutely impeccable style: ground up and solo over three days while sleeping at the base each night.
