Out of the Dark established on Laserz in Austria by Simon Gietl, Vittorio Messini
Habitual climbing partners Simon Gietl and Vittorio Messini have made the first ascent of Out of the Dark on the north face of North Face of Laserz, Lienzer Dolomites, Austria. The two mountain guides established the 270m, 8-pitch mixed route on the 23rd of January, past difficulties up to M5 Wi5, and ois described as "Beautiful north face - winter climbing with an interesting ice and mixed section in the upper third."
While Messini knows the area well, this was Gietl's first time on the peak and he commented "Superb rock, great environment, excellent ice. What could be better than spending time with good friends?"
Out of the Dark tackles a line immediately to the left of Terra Promessa, Area 57 and Tabernakel, and about 300 meters to the left of Spindrift, put up by David Lama and Peter Ortner in 2012. It is worth noting that route was climbed without bolts, and that the area is located in the hunting ground, hence climbing is only permitted after the 1st of January.
