At the moment there is little information to go by, but it’s what matters: Hansjörg Auer has successfully made a solo ascent of Lupghar Sar West, a 7181 m peak in Pakistan’s Karakorum and, importantly, he is back safe and sound in base camp.

After having acclimatised by spending 3 nights up to 6000 m on the SW Ridge of La Rochele, and after having checked out the approach to the West Face, Auer waited for the weather window. This arrived after only a short break, two days ago and at present all that is known is that he reached the summit at 11:30 local time yesterday and that in his first short message he stated that the ascent had been "very interesting."

As he told planetmountain.com before his 15 June departure, Auer considers the entire expedition 'the next step' in his mountaineering activity. More updates will follow as soon as these become available.
