David Göttler, Tiphaine Duperier & boris langenstein have carried out an alpine style ascent of Nanga Parbat (8126m) via the Rupal Face. The German descended the mountain by paraglider, while the French duo completed a ski descent.

David Göttler has abandoned his ambitious expedition on Nanga Parbat for this year, due to unfavourable conditions during his final summit attempt. The German alpinist had hoped to climb the Rupal Face alpine style, initially with Mike Arnold, then with Tiphaine Duperier and boris langenstein.

The organisers of the Piolet d’Or mountaineering award have published the complete list of most significant and innovative climbs carried out in 2021.The prize giving ceremony will be celebrated from 18 to 20 November 2022 at Briançon in France.

On 10 May Andrzej Bargiel and Jędrek Baranowski climbed Laila Peak (6096m) in the Karakorum, Pakistan. Starting from about 150m below the summit, the two Polish mountaineers then descended on skis.

On 30 April Andrzej Bargiel made the first ascent Yawash Sar II (6178m) in the Karakorum, Pakistan. Having reached the summit via the west face, the Polish mountaineer then made the mountain’s first ski descent.

Carlo Alberto Cimenti, best known as Cala, and Patrick Negro perished yesterday in an avalanche while skiing in the mountains of Susa Valley in Italy.

Italian alpinist Carlo Alberto Cala Cimenti has climbed Nanga Parbat (8126m, Karakorum, Pakistan) with the Russians Vitaly Lazo and Anton Pugovkin. Cimenti and Lazo managed to descend on skis from just below the summit.

French skiers Carole Chambaret, Tiphaine Duperier and boris langenstein have made the coveted first ski descent from the summit of Laila Peak (6096m) in the Karakorum, Pakistan. A few days later Italy’s Cala Cimenti and Switzerland’s Matthias Koenig made the second descent of the stunning NW Face from the summit.
