On 5 April 2014 the city of Sondrio hosted the Vth Sondrio Street Climbing event that acted as the first Italian stage of the Salewa Rockshow 2014. The report by Beatrice Giustolisi.

The Salewa Rockshow 2014 starts at the end of March. The climbing tour, open to all, takes part in 8 different countries and culminates in mid July with an international bouldering camp at Fontainebleau in France.

The shock and pain continues regarding the terrorist attack and massacre of alpinists that took place on the night between Saturday and Sunday at the Diamir Base Camp on Nanga Parbat (Karakoram, Pakistan). The list of 11 victims has not yet been made official.

This summer Tomas Brt (Czech Republic), Vlado Linek and Jan Smolen (slovakia) visited Greenland’s Tasermiut Fjord where they established two new routes, Turbo (VIII+, A2,1450m) on the South Face of Ketil and Keep Panic, Please (VIII, 1270m)  up the NW Face of  the N summit of Ulamertorsuaq.

On 17 and 18 July Italian alpinist and mountain guide Rossano Libera made the first solo ascent and second repeat of the Direttissima Memento Mori route up the NE Face of Pizzo Badile. A route and ascent which many define as the "most hair-raising" on the entire face.

From 24 - 27 June 2012 British alpinists Nick Bullock and Andy Houseman made a rare repeat of the Slovak Direct route up Denali (6194m) in Alaska.

Roland Mittersteiner and Oliver Renzler have carried out the first free ascent of "40 anni rifugio Falier", established by Igor Koller and Dino Kuran in 1993 with the use of aid and now graded 7c+.

The 8th Rock Junior in Arco was a triumph of the game of climbing. Once again this is an unmissable event for youth climbing and for the hundreds of youngsters who, with their parents, assaulted the Climbing Stadium.

The 8th Rock Junior will take place at Arco (Garda Trentino, Italy) on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June 2009. This great European climbing festival for young climbers is organised for the 8th year running by the Rock Master association.

Markus Bendler from Austria and Angelika Rainer from Italy won the Ice Climbng World Championship and the second stage of the Ice Climbing World Cup, held in Switzerland's Saas Fee last weekend. Russian athletes Maria Tolokonina and Pavel Gulyaev doubled their Daone success and won the Speed event.

400 climbers have already pre-registered for the seventh Rock Junior European Youth Climbing Days due to take place from 7 - 8 June 2008 at the Climbing Stadium in Arco, Italy.

The third and final stage of the Ice climbing World Cup took place in Switzerland's Saas Fee last weekend and was won by Angelika Rainer from Italy and Simon Anthamatten from Switzerland. The overall 2008 title went to Simon Anthamatten and Jenny Lavarda.

In July Sílvia Vidal from Spain made the solo first ascent of "Life is Lilac" (A4+, 6a, 870m) on the NE Pillar of Shipton Spire, Trango, Pakistan
