Last November Sébastien Bouin and Lucien Martinez finally made the first repeats of Akira, the route at Eaux Claires in France put up by Fred Rouhling in 1995. At the time Rouhling had suggested the unprecedented grade of 9b, not without controversy as 9a+ didn’t exist and there were only a handful of 9a’s to act as reference points. Bouin and Martinez reckon the climb warrants difficult 9a. Here’s the footage of Bouin’s ascent.
