Two films are about to hit the cinemas that promise to be enthralling and both, coincidentally, deal with Yosemite’s magnificent El Capitan. The first is Free Solo, the film directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin (directors of the award-winning Meru) that documents the mind-blowing ropeless ascent of Freerider carried out by Alex Honnold on 3 June 2017.
The second film hitting the box offices is The Dawn Wall and this follows the efforts, ups and downs of Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson as they create the hardest big wall free climb in the world. Directed by the Sender Films team who created a cinematographic touchstone with their Valley Uprising, The Dawn Wall has all the hallmarks of being just as gripping.
