Yesterday Spain’s Jorge Díaz-Rullo redpointed El Bon Combat, the 9b at Cova de Ocell close to Barcelona first ascended by Chris Sharma in 2015 and repeated by Austria’s Jakob Schubert in 2018 and Brasil’s Felipe Camargo in 2019.

Showing great perseverance, Díaz-Rullo succeeded after more than 30 days of attempts on what promises to become an absolute classic of its grade.

The 20-year-old is on a rise and one of the most promising climbers of his generation. In May 2019 he sent his first 9b, La planta de Shiva at Villanueva del Rosario, while 25 busy days at Rodellar this summer resulted in the first ascents of Menina sixtina 9a, Las meninas 9a/+ e Las meninas R 9a+/b, and the repeats of Persistencia de la Gioconda 8c+/9a, Apocalipsis de la Gioconda 9a+ e De battre mon coeur s'est arrète 9a+.
