Filip Schenk sends Beginning to end Eremo di San Paolo chapter

Just a few days after sending his first 9b, Erebor at L'Eremo di San Paolo, Filip Schenk has now also climbed Beginning, a 9a+ at the same crag established by Stefano Ghisolfi in 2020. With this latest redpoint, the 25-year-old South Tyrolean climber has now sent all the hardest routes at this beautiful crag close to Arco. In an interesting side note, this also marks his first 9a+ ascent, as he completely skipped the grade with Erebor. Here is what the Italian Lead Champion had to say about Beginning and on his clean sweep of the crag:

"Eremo di San Paolo - a crag I started to climb at many years ago, probably the crag where I’ve climbed the most in my life. I always struggled with that style of climbing: very physical, steep, small holds.. (so actually it is mainly about squeezing hard). That’s probably the reason why I always came back - I liked the challenge and, deep inside, I really wanted to prove it to myself.

The first big project was Beginning 9a+, which I tried quite a lot last autumn. This year I decided to start with Erebor, because I wasn’t ready yet to go back on the old project.

But than, some magical days came: After sending Erebor, within just five days I was able to take home also Tre Mou Polacche 9a and the old enemy Beginning 9a+!!

So closing the Eremo chapter by finishing the hardest routes there leaves me with a slightly bitter taste, but also some relief and the pride of seeing some improvement in this style. Ready for the next crag!"
