Elie Chevieux is alive!
The Swiss climber is not dead: his mother received a telephone call from the Swiss Ambassador in Iran.
Never before has a denial of news (published by us as well) been more welcome. At 12.46 today, Swiss teletext reported the following: "Genevan Elie Chevieux was not stoned to death in Kabul. His mother received a telephone call on Friday from the Swiss Ambassador in Iran, who announced that her son was alive and that he had been contacted. The young man had not travelled to Kabul stated the woman. Two bodies were found in the Afghan capital on 9 May, stoned to death. One of the two had a Swiss passport on him. A post-mortem will soon be carried out on the two bodies. According to the Romanshc reports, the victims are a Norwegian and a German." News Swiss Teletext published at 12.46 on 14/05/2004 www.swisstxt.ch/TSI/105-00.html Whilst waiting for news directly from Elie himself we heave a sigh of relief. Even if, in any case, we cannot forget the two stoned to death in Kabul.: |
