In 2013 Austria’s Beat Kammerlander made the ground-up first ascent of Kampfzone, a 5-pitch outing high up in the his home Rätikon massif. Boasting an overall grade of 8c and 8a obligatory climbing, Kammerlander was forced back by the complexity of the project but in 2017 he returned, stronger and more motivated than ever before, to make the first free ascent. Here’s the video of the Kammerlander, 58 years old at the time, of his monumental "rare gem".
