Polish team makes first ascent of Phillar of Experience in Kyrgyzstan's Ak-Su Valley

In August 2025 a small Polish team climbed a new line in the legendary Ak-Su Valley in Kyrgyzstan's Pamir Alay mountain range. The route, established by Leon Dobrzański, Piotr Kowalczyk and Paweł Zieliński, is named Phillar of Experience and climbs a striking pillar on Peak 4300 in Peak 4810 (Odessa) massif.
The route follows the prominent, previously unclimbed pillar with a vertical gain of around 1000 meters and a total length of approximately 1900 meters that include sections of ridge terrain. The team climbed 24 pitches with difficulties up to VII-, much of it on excellent quality rock. Although a large part of the terrain was moderate, the ascent was made more difficult by heavy packs with sleeping bags, bivouac gear, and water supplies, as the climbers spent a memorable night around 4000 meters.
The climb was established on 20-21 August, ground-up and onsight, without any fixed pro left in-situ on the actual climb. The climbers alternated leads, often moving together on easier ground. The descent added to the seriousness of the climb, involving demanding rappels down a couloir, where part of their gear had to be left behind.
The team commented: "Opening a new line in such a legendary valley, on such a striking pillar, was a dream come true. For us, Phillar of Experience is not only a climb, but a symbol of courage, trust, and the spirit of adventure in the high mountains. With its combination of length, clean style, solid rock, and aesthetic line, Phillar of Experience may become one of the future classics of the Ak-Su Valley."
