New High Route in Tyrol
A new High Route has been created to unite the Tyrol of Austria and Italy
The Tiroler Hohenweg, a new path that unites the Ausrian Tyrol with the Italian South Tyrol, has recently been inaugurated in Valle Isarco. This project, funded by the European Community, was carried out by the Austrian and Italian Alpine Clubs over a two year period. The 130km itinerary starts in Mayrhofen and finishes in Merano, combining a series of existing and new paths at an altitude of 1600m - 3000m. Although officially accessable to all, the hike is no mean feat and therefore recommended for experienced walkers, who can look forward to 9000m total height gain, 10000m height loss and more than 12 peaks and passes. by Aldo Frezza |
