Everest and the Khumbu glacier... from the monitor

It's receiving clicks from all over the world and we too couldn't not publish it. The image is a panorama of Everest and the Khumbu glacier, taken this spring from an excellent and privileged viewpoint: on the flanks of beautiful Pumori. The photo was taken by American alpinist and filmmaker David Breashears who after having climbed to the roof of the world five times decided, in 2007, to dedicated time to documenting climate change and glacier retreat.

Apart from it's astonishing beauty, what renders this image particular is that it is interactive and to make it "navigable" almost 400 shots were taken with a 300mm lens. By zooming in you can explore every angle of the highest mountain in the world, delve into the hustle and bustle at base camp and, if you look carefully, make out some alpinists at the end of the intricate Icefall as well as some on Lhotse, above their Camp 3 tents... Amazing... and the definition is simply outstanding.
