Aguja Guillaumet Fly & Climb by Fabian Buhl, Felix Sattelberger
In 2020 Fabian Buhl made a daring paragliding flight off Cerro Torre and, realising he needed to improve significantly, he spent the next few years refining his skills. He returned to Patagonia in December 2024 with Felix Sattelberger to attempt something never done before - Patagonia’s first fly & climb combo.
After leaving El Chalten, the pair took off from Loma del Diablo at 11:30 am, landed at Paso Guillaumet an hour later, then climbed Aguja Guillaumet via the Brenner–Moschioni route. Despite tricky conditions they managed to take off with their small wings, flew back down to the pass, collected their gear and then flew back down to the road. In total they had needed little more than six hours to complete their fly, climb and fly combo; by comparison, an ascent of Aguja Guillaumet by traditional means requires a day to approach the mountain, a bivy and then the ascent, descent and return.
"Flying into the mountains and then climbing instead of hiking for hours or days is a total game changer" explained Buhl.
