| New signs indicating the risk of avalanches for off-piste skiers have recently been unveiled by Bolzanos Provinical Tourism and Mountaineering Office. The signs are similar to those currently in use, which indicate the direction and difficulty of the pistes, and now include a yellow avalanche beacon. The yellow beacon light is turned on to indicate avalanche danger when the snowpack reaches grade 4 on the European Hazard Warning scale. This system is already in use in various ski resorts throughout Austria and Switzerland, and is likely to become a new standard for European ski safety. These beacons will be installed in 20 ski resorts throughout N. Italys Alto Adige. The resorts include: Val Senales, Solda, Trafoi, Belpiano, Alpe della Muta, Merano 2000, Klausberg and Speikboden in Valle Aurina, Monte Elmo, Maranza, Valles, Racines, Plose, S. Martino/Sarentino, Selva Gardena, Corvara, Seceda, Monte Pana/S. Cristina, Passo Gardena/Cir. by Aldo Frezza |
