The 57th Trento Film Festival is scheduled to take place from 21 April to 3 May 2009 and the organisation behind the world's oldest festival dedicated to mountains, exploration and adventure is already in full swing. The call for entries, which as of this year can be carried out directly online on www.trentofestival.it, is only the tip of the iceberg of what lies in store.
In fact the Trento Festival never ceases operations. Numerous evenings organised throught the year testament this, allowing the films to be shown which form part of an archive created way back in 1952.
The Festival circuit kicks off in Trento to recount stories and visions which man has of the mountains. Because the stories presented every year at Trento touch upon many generations. They are testament to the passion for mountains and nature which the Festival represents through its "open window onto the world."
As of this year the Festival will be guided by Egidio Bonapace (Mountain Guide from Campiglio and CAI Academic) and he will be supported by the reconfirmed art director Marizio Nichetti, by Augusto Gollin delegated for the directorship, together with the tried and tested team.
The new board of directors has been appointed until autumn 2011 and is comprised of Carlo Ancona, Egidio Bonapace, Gianluigi Bozza, Giuseppe Brambilla, Piero Carlesi, Helene Christanell, Franco De Battaglia, Alessandro Giorgetta, Augusto Golin, Paolo Mondini, Ingrid Runggaldier and Italo Zandonella Callegher who, after 6 years as President, now takes on the role of vice-president. Good luck to all of them!
In the meantime, there is plenty of scope for new entries. And, together with these, there is plenty of space for new ideas and original and "different" visions for film, and also for the books on display in the fair. Trento is an opportunity not to be missed to see and talk about the mountains, mountaineering, the environment and perhaps above all to encounter those men and women who live for and love the mountains.
