Bouldering World Cup, Millau, France
Pons and Choumilova win second stage of Bouldering World Cup 2000
| The second stage of the Bouldering World Cup, held in Milau on 4 June, was won by the Spaniard Pedro Pons, followed closely by his compatriot Daniel Andrada. The Frenchman Daniel Du Lac placed third after having completed three out of the six final boulder problems. The women's event was set perhaps a bit too easy but was won by Elena Choumilova who needed one attempt less than the French Cecile Le Flem and Myriam Motteau who placed second and third respectively. The defending World Champion Cristian Core placed a disappointing 19th due to tendonitis and general fatigue left over after the first stage in Konitsa, Greece. The Frenchman François Petit chronically injured his finger and will probably have to withdraw from this year's competition circuit. Pedro Pons now leads the World Cup rankings thanks to this victory and his second place in Konitsa, while Elena Choumilova, with two victories to her name, comfortably heads the women's field. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
