Damien Farquet, Rico Elmer and Rolf Zurbrugg win the 14th Mezzalama in in 4 hours 38' 05'. Follis, Favre and Raso win the women´s event and establish new record.
![]() It was hard fought over. Uncertain, right to the bitter end. Lashed by the gusts of wind up to 80 km/h and numb from the intense cold at 4000m, the 750 athletes endured true hardship to battle out the 14th Mezzalama. In the end the Swiss trio Damien Farquet, Rico Elmer and Rolf Zurbrugg won the unpredictable event in 4 hours 38' 05', overtaking Jean Pellissier, Stephane Brosse and Pierre Gignoux towards the end of the race. Pellissier-Brosse-Gignoux endured a incredible series of misfortune: two lost contact lenses and one lost ski put a conclusive end to victory hopes, but they nevertheless managed to pull off the impossible and, with a borrowed ski belonging to a spectator, guided Gignoux into second place, just 30 seconds ahead of Guido Giacomelli, Camillo Vescovi and Mirco Mezzanotte. Â The women's event was won by the Swiss-Italian team comprised of Arianna Follis, Chiara Raso and Cristina Favre, who finished off the course in a record 6 hours, 3 minutes and 13 seconds. Our congratulations must go out to all concerned, from the 750 athletes who took part in the race, to the entire organisational committee ![]()
