Last October Mejdi Schalck successfully repeated Es Pontas, Chris Sharma's outstanding deep water solo on the island of Mallorca, Spain. Schalck's ascent came after six sessions of working the line and followed a series of other impressive sends, including Dreamcatcher (9a) in Squamish, Canada, in August. These climbs left him "hyped for more hard outdoor projects in the future" and, more importantly, marked a crucial refocus after the bitter disappointment of narrowly missing qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
