Miho Nonaka climbs Mr Hyde 8c+ at Céüse

Japanese competition climber Miho Nonaka has redpointed Mr Hyde at Ceuse in France. In doing so she has upped her game from 7c+ to 8c+ in one single go.

Planetmountain.com has always sustained that when competition climbers decide to shift focus and unleash their potential on sport climbs, all of a sudden there's little room for anyone else at the top of the game.

Miho Nonaka is a case in point. The 24-year-old Japanese is a dedicated athlete and after taking bronze in the Bouldering World Cup 2015, silver in 2016 and gold in 2018, earlier this season she took silver at sport climbing's debut Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.

Results like these obviously require a training regime that leaves little or no time at all to climbing outdoors, but after the Olympics Nonaka treated herself to some time off plastic and a trip to Céüse in France. Here she recently made short work of Mr Hyde, a stunning 8c+ on the famous Biographie bulge, thanks to which she made an absolutely insane grade jump. Her previous best outdoors was 7c+...
