Alex Puccio is on fire and she’s bouldering like there’s no tomorrow. News from across the pond is that the 28-year-old has now climbed Penrose step at Leavenworth, the 8B+ problem she got painfully close to sending a year ago.

In February Puccio won the US bouldering championships for the 11 time and she has now climbed four 8B+ blocs, continuing a trend she started in 2014 with her ascent of Jade in the Rocky Mountains National Park. Needless to say this is at the very apex of female bouldering, currently spearheaded by Ashima Shiraishi and her ascent of the 8C Horizon at Mount Hiei in Japan.

In November 2017 another extremely strong climber, Austria’s Anna Stöhr, managed to send Penrose step on the last day of her US climbing trip.
