Watch Ty Andrews climb Manaslu in record-breaking 9 hours 52 minutes

The record-breaking speed ascent of Manaslu, achieved on 19 September 2024, by American mountain runner Tyler Andrews who set the fastest known time of just 9 hours and 52 minutes to the 8163m high main summit.

On 19 September 19 2024, 34-year-old American ultrarunner Tyler Andrews took just 9 hours and 52 minutes to reach the main summit of Manaslu, at 8,163 meters the eighth-highest mountain in the world.

Andrews had initially set out for an acclimatisation rotation but, feeling strong, decided to make "impromptu summit push" with "ridiculously lightweight gear." Here’s the story behind his incredible feat, which concluded with his return to base camp after 14 hours and 55 minutes.

With this ascent, Andrews broke the previous fastest known time of 12 hours, set in 2023 by Pemba Gelje Sherpa. In 2019, François Cazzanelli had reached the summit in just 13 hours, completing the round trip from base camp to summit and back in 17 hours and 43 minutes.
