Despite terrible conditions the French Mountain Guide manages to summit Cho Oyu (8201m), sixth highest mountain on earth
![]() Cho Oyu (8201m), situated on the border between Nepal and Tibet, is the sixth highest mountain on earth. It was first climbed by the Austrians S. Jocheler and H. Tichy and sherpa Pasang Dawa Lama on 19 October 1954. Photo F. Tremolada Focus expeditions www.focusworldexpeditions.com | The majority of expeditions have abandoned the climb because of the prohibitive climatic conditions. Stephen Auda, a doctor on the Edmond Joyeusaz expedition (Focus Exp.) of which Besson is a member, has had to treat dozens of mountaineers for frostbite, bronchitis and pneumonia. Besson, Joyeusaz and the other expedition members should return to Kathmandu on 11 October before returning to Italy on 14 October. |
