Piz La Buora virgin east face climbed by Benjamin Bosshard, Luca D'Amico

This one has been in my mind already for a long time! A really impressive, 300m high granite pillar, yet its steep east-face remained unclimbed. Everything fell into place spontaneously, so we decided to give it a try.

We set off from Curaglia in the Grisons and approached on skis on 15 April 2026. We bivouacked at the foot of the wall and climbed it in a single push the following day.

We encountered a lot of grass on the lower part, but the rest is on perfect, steep granite. We climbed everything free and onsight, except for one 5‑metre crack on pitch 6, which was wet and covered in moss and so on this short section we resorted to aid (A1)

We descended via the south ridge to the couloir, where we made 5 abseils to reach the base of the wall. It’s pretty rare to find a face where you can draw your own line without compromise - a privilege! I’m slowly learning to appreciate the "smaller" mountains right outside my door.
