Hansjörg Auer remembers the Marmolada Fish route free solo
The video profile of Austrian alpinist Hansjörg Auer after his free solo climb of the Fish route - Via Attraverso il Pesce (Weg durch den Fisch) - carried out on 29/04/2007 up the South Face of Marmolada, Dolomites
Talking about the Fish route, after yesterday’s video of Italian climber Federica Mingolla, here’s our take of Hansjörg Auer filmed in 2008 for the WebTv project planetmountain.com curated for the Trento Film Festival. We encountered a historic moment: the young and practically unknown Austrian had recently free soloed the Fish route (aka Via Attraverso il Pesce in Italian, or Weg durch den Fisch in German) up the South Face of Marmolada.
At the time, not even the Austrian could fathom the audacity and magnitude of that ascent, carried out in under three hours after having inspected the route quickly by abseil the day beforehand in utter solitude. Having, in advance, shared his dream with practically no one. Auer told us recently that now, almost 10 years later, this remains one of his most authentic moments captured on film.

11/09/2015 - Manolo: Weg durch den Fisch, climbing the Marmolada Fish route thirty years later
After 30 years Maurizio 'Manolo' Zanolla returns to climb Via Attraverso il Pesce, the Fish route on the Marmolada South Face in the Dolomites… and experience those (ghastly and unrepeatable) moments, those distant memories that resurface in an unexpected perspective.
23/05/2007 - Hansjörg Auer free solo Attraverso il Pesce in Marmolada
On 29/04 the Austrian climber Hansjörg Auer carried out the second solo ascent of the legendary Via attraverso il Pesce on the south face of the Marmolada, after Maurizio Giordani's 1990 ascent. This is the first free solo without ropes.
