Robert and Daniela Jasper climb hard ice in Canada and Switzerland
This year Switzerland’s small Lauterbrunnertal became one of the main reference points for modern mixed ice routes. The German Mountain Guide Robert Jasper trained in this "Little Vail" throughout winter, managing to climb all the hardest routes: Tomahawk" M10+/11-; "White out" M10, the new "Blackout" M9+/10-, "Blackbox" M8+ and "Chicks out of control" M8-. Not bad for a day’s work!

On top form Jasper accepted Will Gadd’s invitation to the Rocky Mountains and, together with his wife Daniela, flew over to Canmore, Canada. He immediately set to work and, still jetlagged, climbed "Caveman" M10- third go. Two days later he climbed "Animal Farm" M10 second go, before making the second ascent of Animal Farm Direct M10+/11-. Flash! To finish off the day in style he sent "Svoboda" M10-. Flash, of course.

The second week started less well though, as Robert slipped out of his foothook, spurring his hand and bringing to an abrupt end this impressive Canada trip. Luckily his wife Daniela continued where he left off, climbing "Boyd Mystery" M8 after a lay off due to injury.

Fantastic!
