German Stefan Glowacz has just set off for his second attempt at forging a new line up the impressive and stunningly beautiful La Proa on the Roraima Tepuis in British Guyana, Venezuela.

The sport climber-cum-alpinist had attempted the line this spring together with Holger Heuber and their long-term expedition partner, the late Kurt Albert. At the time the team was forced to turn back after encountering unusually bad weather and running out of provisions having climbed to circa half-height.

For obvious reasons Glowacz believes this return, which had been planned prior to Albert's death, will be "painful and bitter" yet he is adamant that "despite everything the joy is great. I'm a modern Nomad. I'm always pleased before setting off to discover areas where no one has ever been before. Holger and I have made a conscious decision to complete the climb in this very special place in the manner Kurt would have wanted."
